What is the Constructive Creativity Blog?
Constructive Creativity is Dan Chay's web log. It began in June, 2003, and to my knowledge is the first official blog of anyone serving in a public office in Alaska.

Yeah, but what's a blog?
Blog is short for web log. It's an interactive online journal, with the most recent entry on top.

What's the point?
The Constructive Creativity blog is intended to give you some up-to-the-hour news and updates directly. You don't have to wait to hear about it on the radio, in newspapers, or elsewhere. It also allows you to join in discussions with other people interested in similar topics.

What sort of things get posted on the blog?
Blog entries include statements from Dan Chay, commentary, statements from guest authors, introductions to interesting essays and articles, calls to action, reports from people in the field, and "news roundups" with links to local, Alaska, national and international news stories, and dispatches.

Who posts entries on the blog?
Dan Chay and guest writers post on the blog.

What does it mean to link?
I provide links to relevant stories, articles, or websites. However, I do not endorse and am not responsible for the content of external sites linked to from the blog.

Can anyone visit the blog?
Yes, Constructive Creativity is free and requires no registration.

That doesn't sound very interactive to me.
A blog can be a spirited forum for political and philosophical discussion, sharing information, and I hope this one eventually will become the hub of an online community. At any time of any day, people can dialogue, debate, organize, argue, joke, and bringing innovative ideas to our communities.

How do I join the online discussion and community?
Just click on "Comments" at the bottom of a blog entry. This will open a page of comments known as a "thread."

What's the difference between an entry and a comment?
Entries appear on the Constructive Creativity main page and are posted only by me or authorized guests. Comments appear in the threads and can be posted by anyone.

Can I post a comment?
It's easy. At the end of each comment thread is a place to post your own comment.

Do I have to register to make a comment?
At this point, no. Just enter your name (or pseudonym) and title your comments, and speak your mind. If spamming becomes a problem in the future, a minimal (easy-to-do) registration may be required.

Can I write anything I want?
I will not edit comments merely for disagreeing. I do reserve the right to delete comments that are rude, derogatory, discriminatory, libelous or offensive. I encourage comments to be in the spirit of learning-oriented dialogue.

Can I change my comment once I've posted it?
No. Your comment is saved permanently in the archives, and can be read by anybody.

Does anyone actually read them?
I will read all comments, and sometimes I will reply. Gradually, as more local people discover this blog, reading activity will increase. Comments are archived.

When can I post a comment?
You can join a discussion any time of the day or night.

What is a lurker?
Someone who reads the comments threads but doesn't post his/her own comments. (Lurkers are welcome, and feel free to join the discussion!)

What is a troll?
A troll is someone who deliberately disrupts the discussion in the comments thread. (It comes from the fishing term--a troller drops his lure hoping someone will bite.) This blog has not yet experienced trolls, but it's a common term on other blogs.

What do I do if I think I see a troll?
Please remain seated. Do not panic. If trolls are making posts that violate the comment policy, the best thing to do is ignore them. Responding to a troll simply prolongs the disruption of the discussion. I will delete comments that are rude, derogatory, discriminatory, libelous or offensive.
